Composer Ángel Luis Olmeda is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. His music has been performed by

North South Consonance Ensemble as a winner of the 1995 North South Consonance Composer Competition, in 1991 “Ritual Nocturno” was commissioned by the Office of Cultural Activities of the University of Puerto Rico for the Woodwind Quintet Aulos, in 1992 “Centenario” for mixed choir and piano was commissioned for the centennial celebration of the 500 hundred year of the Discovery of America by the Augusto Rodríguez Choral, “Aleluya” one of the pieces from his mass “Homenaje a la Catedral de San Juan” and “Lirios recién cortados” for mixed choir and organ was performance by the Orfeón San Juan Bautista on 2005 in the Homage to José Ignacio Quintón one of the most relevant Puerto Rican composer from the nineteen century, “Crossing the Wind” for full orchestra winner of the ASCAP Young Composer Competition and the Pennsylvania University Orchestra Competition, was performed on 2002 by the Pennsylvania State University Philharmonic at the Eisenhower Theater in State College Pennsylvania. Olmeda’s music has been part of the repertories of many distinguished musicians, like members of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and New York Symphony, among others.

At present Olmeda join the faculty of the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras Campus and the Metropolitan Inter American University. Olmeda is writing a new work for flute and orchestra and working in his research about the religious music of nineteen century in the Hispanic Caribbean.
